OUR BIGGEST DONATION EVER

April 25, 2006 - Kyiv Lions Club handed over a check for 85,850 uah (approx $17,000) to the Children of Chernobyl Relief and Development Fund.

With this money KLC purchased a Bear Cub 750 Respiratory Ventilator.

Ventilators are “breathing machines” that help infants and small children with difficulty breathing or those having significant and potentially dangerous pauses in their breathing (apnea).  Ventilators provide pressure that forces air into the lungs which helps sick lungs to work more efficiently and regulates the breathing rate.  Newborn infants can have difficulty breathing and require an emergency ventilator for many reasons.  Some of the most common causes are: pneumonia, amniotic fluid that was breathed into the lungs before delivery, immature or underdeveloped lungs, persistent fluid in the lungs that has not cleared, a hole that develops in the lung that causes a part of the lung to collapse, or weak muscles that cannot support regular breathing.

With this donation, KLC finds themselves in pretty elite company as this type of machine has also been donated by the late Pope John Paul II and US Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton upon their visits to Ukraine.

The lives of dozens of children are saved per month thanks to the efforts of all the Kyiv Lions Club members.

In Lionism, We Serve.
